A few of shots of two new places opening up at the Austin St. Mall (what do you call that mammoth structure between 70th Avenue and 70th Road anyway?)

Construction Site on 70th Ave. For Sale

Walked by that construction site next to the Bukharian Jewish Community Center at 106-16 70th Avenue this morning and noticed that it is up for sale. It’s that hulk of girders that’s been sitting there unfinished for the past couple of years.

The EuroPan Experience, continued

Ok, so it’s been a few weeks for this new cafe at the corner of Austin and 70th Road (Restaurant Row), to get its act together. Unfortunately, not much progress in that department. But I still love the bagels!

It took them about 6 or 7 minutes to get me my toasted bagel this morning – not that bad, true. However, they were kind of a stressful several minutes for this customer as I watched as they did absolutely nothing about my order the first few minutes, then asked me two more times what I wanted – after I had already paid. This while all kinds of chaos reigned behind the counter as they juggled several people’s orders at the same time. My advice to the manager of the store: walk a couple of blocks to the Staples, buy each of your order takers something called a pen and something called paper, have them do something called “writing” the order down on the paper. Really, it ain’t rocket science! And your bagels are good, so I am rooting for you!!
