Shakespeare in Forest Park

July 23, 2010 Leave a comment

I am re-posting this from Queens Central’s Forums in case you missed it. Sounds like a nice way to spend a — hopefully not too hot — Sunday.
***********

“Some friends of mine are doing an all-boroughs parks tours of “Much Ado About Nothing.” This Sunday, they’re coming to Forest Park – and it’s FREE. Come and check it out!”

Black Henna Productions is proud to announce our Summer Parks Tour of William Shakespeare’s MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING!

Running in several New York City parks on 7/24, 7/25, 7/30, 7/31, and 8/1, Much Ado is Shakespeare’s classic tale of love, laughter, and even a bit of treachery (both good-natured and sinister). Join us at the luxurious “Club Messina”, and watch as Claudio woos Hero, Beatrice spars with Benedick, and all the while Donna Joan plots revenge on the Prince and his companions. Listen to the melodious strumming of The Friar, and lounge on the sun deck with a boat drink and a bottle of suntan lotion – but remember, no running by the pool.

More on Potential Tennis Stadium Sale

July 23, 2010 Leave a comment

An article from the Forest Hills/Rego Park Times website has a lot of good detail about how West Side Tennis Club members feel about the potential sale of the Tennis Stadium. The vote by the Club members is scheduled for August 19th.

I feel it would be a huge mistake to have this piece of history demolished, as I said in an earlier post. I think Tennis.com Assistant Editor Ed McGrogan’s column that I highlighted yesterday about the USTA buying the Stadium sounds like a great idea: “The USTA could acquire the stadium, renovate it, and replace the existing hard court with lush grass. With a suitable show court, along with the existing grass courts in the center of the club, Forest Hills would be an attractive site for a second ATP tour grass event—or the first on the WTA tour—in the United States.”

By the way, here is a really cool aerial view of the Tennis Stadium, which shows very clearly where it sits in relation to the rest of the West Side Tennis Club.
