Multiple Personalities

October 3, 2010 2 comments

Isn’t it interesting how different Forest Hills can be from one day to the next?

Last night, we had helicopters buzzing overhead as a disturbed man went slashing people with a razor blade on Austin. While today, on a crisp, Autumnal morning it’s as if that never happened. We have a family-friendly street fair on Austin going on in the same place as last night’s craziness.

Museum To Reopen In January

After extensive renovations The Museum of the Moving Image in nearby Astoria will be reopening on January 15th, The Times reported yesterday. The museum was due to make the announcement today: http://artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/07/07/expanded-museum-of-the-moving-image-in-astoria-to-open-in-january/

If you have never been, the museum as it was before was a great little treat. Smallish, quaint even, but a lot of fun. I really look forward to the expanded version when it opens early next year. And it will probably generate a lot of positive attention for our borough, something that is always nice.

‘Staycation’ ! Coney Island’s Annual Mermaid Parade

June 20, 2010 Leave a comment

It was just a hop, skip and a jump (actually an hour and a half on the F line) to get to the Mermaid Parade in Coney Island Saturday. It was well worth the trip. The parade was less crowded than I thought and a lot of fun. One of the great things about living in New York City is that during the summer the beach is just a subway ride away – how much easier can it get than that? No traffic! Just some loud, excited talkers in your ear during the journey! Of course, another nice thing more specifically about Forest Hills is that if you have a car we are just a hop, skip and a jump to the beaches of Long Island.
