Edge of the City Awards – First Winner Announced!!

Announcing the Edge of the City Awards! Every so often I will be posting the latest winners. These ECA Awards will be given to the Best, and the Worst, businesses in Forest Hills.

To kick things off, I would like to announce the winner of the very first Edge of the City Award. (I’m so excited!! 🙂 )

The Category (said with a touch of Queens/Yiddish impatience in the voice) :”How Does That Store Survive?! I Have NEVER Seen Anyone In It!”

The Winner: InVite Health on 71st Continental. 

Why it Won: If you’re not familiar with InVite Health, or can’t seem to remember ever seeing it even though you walk along 71st Continental Ave. every single day, don’t worry! You’re not alone. This tiny store is squeezed between the Starbucks and the Radio Shack and is mostly ignored by, well, just about everyone. Just yesterday I passed this vitamin/healthy pill store to see, once again, not a single customer in it, and yet two youthful, energetic employees laughing uproariously at each other’s jokes while they stared out the store’s front window.

As the world, our country, state, city and neighborhood struggle through one of the worst economies ever, InVite health seems to march on unscathed despite nary a customer ever seen inside!
